The most important component, the digital signature issued by a CA, ensures the document’s authenticity. In summary, digital signatures on digital certificates attached to an e-mail ensure the sender’s authenticity. Thus, the recipient is able to validate both the digital certificate as well as the digital signature which identify the sender of the message.
