How does Business arrange the management of software?

Amsterdam, 10/04/2008

When you are asked: “How many company cars does your organization have?”, you probably know the answer directly. However, when they ask you: “How many licenses does your organization have?”, most people are not able to provide a proper answer.
However software is an essential company tool for many organizations, the question who is responsible for the management of software, can also often not be answered.

Recently, PC-WARE has given an assignment to Klantenwinkel, to research how organizations has fit the use and property of their software portfolio and what they claim to be their Total Cost of Ownership. More than 195 managers from different branches participated and answered different questions about their software portfolio. A surprising conclusion of the survey was that in only 21% of the researched organizations the management of software was been well arranged. Within the other organizations, investments in software are made, but the management of these licenses is ignored.

“During our many years of experience on software licensing and its management in medium and large organizations, we have noticed these problems many times”, says Ricardo Koelemij, Commercial Director of PC-WARE The Netherlands. “People don´t often realize that due to a good balance of the management and use of the software, large cost savings can be realized. Besides, risks and uncertainty concerning compliancy can be decreased and even taken away completely. By creating this awareness, people can give their full attention to their core activities again.”

These experiences of Koelemij are being confirmed by ICT-research bureau Gartner, that claims that with good management of the software, cost savings up to 30 percent is possible. “With the use of our Software Asset Management services we support organizations with the process optimization and transparency in license management,” says Koelemij.
