Microsoft Select

You may choose a Select Agreement if:

  • Your organisation is medium to large sized
  • You have 250 or more PCs
  • You have mixed product and purchasing requirements
  • You want the flexibility to adjust your requirements as your needs change.

 

A Select Licence Agreement lasts for three years but gives you on-going rights to the software versions you've installed. The agreement is based on predicting your software needs.

To get the best discounts, you need to 'forecast' your software usage in advance over the three years of the agreement from three product pools (or categories); applications, operating systems and servers, and your price level is based on this forecast. Each year your usage is checked and your price level may be increased or decreased depending on usage.

Price levels:

Each product offering is assigned specific point values to determine price levels. Points are calculated based on three product pools, with a minimum three year forecast of points to be acquired for each price level:

  • A: 1,500   Points per Pool
  • B: 12,000 Points per Pool  
  • C: 30,000 Points per Pool
  • D: 75,000 Points per Pool

Select Plus

Microsoft Select Plus (which will eventually replace Select) allows customers to purchase their software licences and services at any business unit level, while realising advantages as one organisation. Since the agreement never expires, customers do not need to renegotiate and renew agreements every three years.

Select Plus also adds value with:

  • Simplified purchasing agreements. Organisations are provided with a single agreement under the Master Business Agreement (MBA). This agreement never expires for transactional purchases, providing more flexibility, while eliminating the need to renegotiate and renew every three years.
  • Organised purchases. Select Plus Agreements are assigned to a single Customer ID, so asset reporting can be done under a single, master agreement.
  • Licence management. Enhanced self-service, online tools give customers and partners better management capabilities.
  • Great savings. Simple, automated, volume-based discounts can be applied to licensed product purchases across the entire customer organisation at the corporate and affiliate locations.
  • More value from Microsoft Software Assurance. Organisations can buy and receive a full 36 months of benefits, without proration based on purchase timing.
  • Takeaways eliminated. Customers can renew or sign a new agreement under the Select Plus program. Software Assurance covered by a Select License agreement still applies to the licensed products until its original expiration, and it may be renewed under Select Plus—so customers can accrue the full value of Software Assurance starting with the new agreement.
  • Cross-language use rights. These rights can help enhance an organisation’s global presence by ensuring that staff located in different countries can easily communicate. Note that customers may not licence in one language and deploy that licensed product in another language with a differing value.
  • Downgrade rights. Organisations can now standardise on versions. Downgrade rights offer the right to purchase the latest software version available, yet still run a previous version.
  • Training and evaluation software licences. These licences help organisations budget for software training and evaluation, and include:
              20 copies per software title for use in a dedicated training facility.
              10 copies per software title for a 60-day evaluation.
  • Re-Imaging rights. Providing added convenience during product rollouts, these rights allow the customer to use certain licensed product media for copying software onto multiple devices from one standard image.
  • Secondary use rights. These rights can help increase productivity by allowing primary users of a licensed desktop PC to share the same application licence with a portable PC (for work-related purposes only).
